NetRunner is a retro style action-maze game. As one of the best hackers in the world you plug into a high-end computer, and try to get through to Gaia's mainframe, by steering an avatar and collecting the Overdrive Crystals through 50 different levels.
In every level main aim is to collect all the Overdrive Crystals before the time runs out. By picking them up you make progress in hacking the system.
Your avatar hasn't got any weapon, so your best option is to run away from opponents. Fortunately as a hacker you don't have to obey the same rules they have. In every level there are walls, which stop your enemies, but not you. Your avatar can phase right through them, so it gives a big advantage. On the other hand some of your opponent can disrupt avatar's ability to phase. If they do so, while you are going through a wall you will be caught in it and eventually destroyed. Don't worry though. The avatar is just your representation in cyberspace, so it can't be disintegrated for good. It will always respawn, although this process takes a bit of precious time. To avoid being caught in a wall you can Scan immediate area. Scanning reveals all invisible walls, but it depletes your Energy. Some enemies hunts you. When get you, can slow you down, or disrupt your phasing ability. One way to get rid of them is to shake your iPhone and throw them off. Unfortunately shaking off enemies depletes your Energy too. When your Energy reaches zero nothing happens (you don't die), but you can't Scan or Shake off enemies. Fortunately Energy replenishes over time, so you just have to wait a bit for it to recover. Another thing, that can help you reach your goal are power ups scattered through levels. Use them wisely, and you are sure to defeat the virus.
Game story:
Lately S.O.L.A.R Corporation has been working on A.I. called Gaia. The project was near completion, when an unknown virus struck company's computer system and infected it. A.I. merged with virus and started spreading. In around 10 minutes it took over an entire city. Scientist managadet to restrain the virus, but they don't know for how long. The only hope lays in Andrew Cole – one of the best hackers in the world. Only he can get to Gaia's Core and turn it off.
